The mother of Argentina legend Diego Maradona has died at the age of 81, after previously suffering from cardiac-related problems.Dalma Salvadora Franco, better known as Dona Tota, had been held in intensive care since Friday at Los Arcos Hospital in Buenos Aires.
Her son Diego, now coach of UAE club Al-Wasl, returned to Argentina, upon hearing his mother has been hospitalised, to accompany her, along with his sisters and youngest daughter Gianina Maradona.
Sources from the hospital confirmed to the press that Dona Tota was admitted to the clinic yesterday, but the causes of her admission have remained undisclosed.
The 81-year-old had also been hospitalised in the past. In 2003, she was involved in a significant accident, while in July and August of this year she had spent time at the Suizo Clinic in Argentina with complaints about her heart.
A minute's silence due to her death has already been observed during the Argentine Primera Division match between Independiente and Olimpo.
